Ingredient Notes

Here is an overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom for quantities.

Green Beans – Fresh green beans do work best for this recipe and will have the best flavor. Look for the bright green and perky ones.

Olive Oil – You can use olive oil spray or the normal olive oil you have in your kitchen. Olive oil cooks the best with green beans and the flavors pair nicely.

Summer Savory Leaves – This can be substituted for the same amount of thyme or Italian seasoning. All options will add some nice depth to the dish.

Parmesan – As a garnish, freshly grated parmesan cheese is optional. It adds some nice flavor, but if you prefer the green beans without it they will still be delicious!

Parsley – Fresh parsley is also an optional garnish to add. It gives the dish a nice appearance and tastes great too.

steps for making green beans, four images
  1. Prep: If needed for your air fryer, preheat to 350 F.
  2. Combine: In a mixing bowl, combine the trimmed green beans, oil, and seasonings. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Air Fry: Place the green beans in your air fryer and cook. Take the basket out halfway through your cook time and shake to mix the green beans around. You’ll know they are done when the green beans look a little blistered.
  4. Finish and serve: Serve them immediately sprinkled with parmesan and garnished with parsley. Enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Instead of summer savory, you can also use the same amount of thyme or Italian seasoning.
  • Fresh green beans work best in this recipe, look for bright green, perky ones
  • Optional Add-ins: Red pepper flakes add a bit of spice, squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the finished dish to add some fresh flavor
  • Trimming green beans: I prefer to trim both ends but in general, only the stem tip needs to be cut. Line up beans and cut tips off.
  • Cutting green beans: Keep them whole for a nicer presentation, but feel free to cut them smaller if you prefer
  • Cooking times depend on your Air Fryer, toaster-oven-style Air Fryers usually take longer.
  • Don’t overload the basket or the beans will cook unevenly. If you would like to make a bigger batch in one go take a look at my Oven Roasted Green Beans recipe.

It only takes about 8 minutes at 380 F. It is very quick and easy!

What spices go well with green beans?

Green beans taste great with a variety of spices. Summer savory, dried thyme, Italian seasoning or garlic to name a few. Finish them off with some freshly grated parmesan cheese and parsley too!

What to serve with air fryer green beans

These air fryer green beans are a great side for many dishes. For example, they go well with my Pork Medallions with Blue Cheese Sauce, Air Fryer Chicken Thighs, or Horseradish Parmesan Crusted Salmon. This healthy side dish goes well with just about anything.

Leftovers

Put the green beans in an airtight container or wrap tightly in plastic wrap or tin foil. To properly store them, keep them in the refrigerator and they will last for 3 to 5 days.

Add these leftover green beans to a salad or they also taste great cold as a side dish. If you would like to reheat them just put them in your air fryer at 350 F or microwave for a few minutes until they are warmed through.
