Our Air Fryer Chickpeas are SO crispy and done in less than 15 minutes! Faster and easier than in the oven, this air-fried snack is always a hit.
The air fryer doesn’t only make the best Chicken Wings and Potato Wedges, it also makes the best roasted chickpeas! So much faster than in the oven and so much EASIER.
This simple snack is so flavorful, packed with protein, and SUPER crispy! I love to make sinful snacks in the Air Fryer like donuts and french fries, but these chickpeas are one of my favorite things to make when I’m craving something tasty that is on the healthier side.
Air Fryer Chickpeas are done in less than 15 minutes and use pantry staples that you definitely have on hand: 1 can of chickpeas, oil, and some standard spices – nothing fancy.
Why make this recipe

Ingredient Notes
Here is an overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe.
- Chickpeas – Use canned chickpeas for this recipe. Dried chickpeas need to be soaked and cooked first.
- Oil – Olive oil, avocado oil, or any other oil with a higher smoke point works. I prefer avocado oil.
- Spices – I’m using my favorite spice mix for chickpeas but you can also use other spices. Check out my seasoning ideas below.

How to make this recipe
Detailed measurements and instructions can be found at the bottom of the page on the printable recipe card.
- Preheat: Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees F. Some Air Fryers don’t need to be preheated, so check your manual.
- Dry chickpeas: Rinse and drain the chickpeas, then use paper towels to pat them dry. This helps the seasoning and oil to stick better.
- Season: In a bowl, toss chickpeas with oil and spices until evenly coated.
- Air Fry: Transfer chickpeas to the air fryer basket. Cook for 12–14 minutes, shaking the basket a couple of times. The chickpeas are done when they are crispy. Depending on your Air Fryer, this might take longer.
- Serve: Take them out and adjust seasoning. They taste best hot.
Expert Tips
- Use canned chickpeas and rinse them well in a colander
- If you’re using a 19 oz can of chickpeas, add 1 tsp more oil
- Patting the chickpeas with paper towels makes them crisp up more and helps the seasoning and oil to stick better
- Use my favorite spice mixture or try one of my other seasoning suggestions (see above)
- You can always adjust the amount of seasoning you use
- Make sure the chickpeas are evenly coated with oil, this prevents the spices from burning during the cooking process
- It’s normal if you hear a popping sound during cooking
- Keep in mind that every Air Fryer cooks a bit differently, some are faster, some run hotter. Keep an eye on the chickpeas and take them out sooner or add a minute or two depending on how crispy you want them
Recipe FAQs
They make a great savory snack with lots of protein (40g protein in 1 cup). But we also love them as a crispy topping on bowls, curries, and salads.
Your Air Fryer might be not as powerful, so add a few minutes to the cooking time until they are crispy. Making a double batch or filling the basket too much can also influence the crispiness, make sure the air can circulate.
Dried chickpeas need to be soaked and cooked before using them in this recipe.
Storing
Let the chickpeas cool completely on a wire rack, then store them in a paper bag or in a container with a paper towel and a loose lid. The chickpeas keep for up to 1 week. They will lose some of their crispiness and dry out a bit, but will still be delicious.
