Tips and Tricks to make the BEST Homemade Churros

  • This recipe makes about 35 4-inch long churros.
  • It is ok if a few little lumps of flour remain after adding the flour to the saucepan.
  • Depending on the size of your piping bags you might have to divide the dough into batches.
  • Use a star-shaped tip to get the perfect shapes. I use a Wilton 1M tip.
  • If you don’t have piping bags or tips you could also use a ziplock or freezer bag.
  • Refrigerating the piped churros makes them easier to handle and they will keep their shape better while air frying.
  • Don’t refrigerate the piped churros longer than 1 hour or they will dry out.
  • If you have leftover dough you can store it wrapped in plastic wrap overnight. Let it come to room temperature before piping it into shapes, it is very difficult to pipe the cold dough.
  • Depending on you Air Fryer you might have to bake the churros in batches. They will increase in size a little bit while baking so leave some room between them.
  • Immediately transfer the baked churros to the cinnamon sugar mixture. This makes the sugar mixture stick better to them.
  • Churros taste best served warm. They don’t keep well. I don’t recommend freezing the baked churros.
  • Serve with warmed up Nutella, Chocolate Sauce (churros con chocolate), Caramel Sauce, or Whipped Cream.

  1. I found a chocolate sauce recipe by googling “churro chocolate sauce”. Made these in my air fryer. My family ate them faster than i could make them!!! This is now part of our family faves. Thanks so much!

I made these today and let me tell you so good and easy. My husband and I ate the first batch in 10 minutes while my 2and batch was cooking. Amazing! Saving this recipe forever. Thank you!

  3. Looking to make these for Cinco De Mayo. Could I cut this recipe in half? Not trying to have 8 servings of churros for my bf and I!

Delicious! I went with this recipe because of the reviews and so glad I did! I don’t have room in the fridge to put a baking sheet, so after I made the mixture, I just put it in a quart sized Ziploc and put that in the fridge for about an hour and a half. I made it before dinner, so it would be ready whenever we wanted dessert. Since it was just for my husband and myself, I just cut off a corner of the Ziploc and piped it that way. Made 10, 3″ churros and saved the remaining mixture. Served with caramel sauce. As someone else mentioned, the outside was nice and crispy and the inside was very moist! The kitchen smelled amazing and even my dog wanted some! Had no problem getting the sugar/cinnamon mixture to stick. Thanks so much! YUM!

Seriously cannot believe how delicious these are, and I even used gluten free flour!   Will be making these a lot!   Thank you!

    1. Which gluten free flour did you use? I am planning on making these gluten free as well. I have all purpose gf and baking flour gf. Thanks!!

    1. Foil also works great. If I’m in a hurry or my silpat isn’t clean, I usually just throw a piece of foil over my baking sheet. It works great for everything from baking to frozen food to broiling. In all honesty, I probably use foil more than anything else because it works well and is a super quick clean up.

My wife made these the other day and they were exceptional. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Perfect!
